While getting IT support is an integral part of business and especially if you want it to prosper, it is not an exercise that should be taken lightly. You have to understand the terms and conditions the support company has and the only way through which you can do this and ensure that you get quality services for your money is through signing an IT support contract. In most cases, the contents will vary from one provider to another though there are certain things which must be contained in an effective contract. The first one is the duration of the contract. This should include factors such as the conditions under which the contract can be terminated and if the provider is the one who does this, are you liable to get a refund, the payment mode and the period when the contract ends.

The second thing that should be stated in the contract clearly is the support hours you expect to receive. A vast majority of IT support providers operate on fixed hours and for this reason, you should find out if they can carry forward hours that were not used to the next month to ensure that you do not go at a loss. In addition to this, the contract should also state the equipment covered in by the support team. This will often be based on how old the equipment is and in this case, you might find companies that do not include keyboards and mice that are over five years old.

To top it all, the contract should also indicate the kind of software they support. The most commonly used include Linux. Microsoft Exchange Server 2000, Internet Security and Acceleration Server and Microsoft Back Office Small business edition and without knowing whether they cover the system you use, you would be placed at a disadvantage. These are just some of the aspects you should seriously consider in an IT support contract, you can find out more to ensure that you hire a company understanding fully well what they can offer you.
